My husband and I have something in common... Something that, over the years, I have learned not all people share! 🤔. Turns out, BOTH of our girls have this EXACT same trait in common with us.... Can you guess what it is???!!! ...
Well, let me tell you! We are all... a complete open book 📖 💯!!! We are honest, real and raw. We share the good, the bad... and the ugly!! When we are happy it's written all over our faces and when we are sad we wear it on our sleeve, AND WE TALK ABOUT IT!!! Yes, we talk about it... Doesn't everyone?!?! Sometimes it comes up in the car 🚗, sometimes before bed 🛏️, sometimes as we're falling asleep 🥱, sometimes while we're playing a game🎲, sometimes when we're watching a movie 🎥, sometimes when we're eating 🍽️, sometimes when we're in a fight 😠, sometimes when we're reading a book📖... Sometimes when we're praying 🙏🏼, somehow, someway... It always comes up!! I am So So Grateful for this!!!
Since starting school... The girls share ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!!! .... The good, the bad, and the ugly! It's written all over their faces and they wear it on their sleeves. They talk about what they had for lunch and whether they LOVED it😋 or HATED it😫!! They talk about their friends and what they played at recess. They talk about what happened that was Soooo funny 🤣, or what happened that made them sad 😞! They talk about how much they LOVE their teachers👩🏫!! They talk about how, "brain warmups were great today!!" , or "I almost cried because I didn't understand"! They share the things that made their feelings hurt no matter how big or small. They talk with us about things they've never heard before and ask us what it means. They share the things they've done or said that they wish they would have done differently. My favorite, however, is this....
"Mom, is it true..." Or "Dad is it true??"
I cherish those 4 words!! Those words, that statement of a question allows us to point 👉🏼 our kids to the Bible which in turn points them to God☝🏼, the author and perfecter of life 🌎!
They ask good questions!! They bring about great conversations!!...
"So... is the earth really 4.5 billion years old?"🌎. "Is it true that the sun will burn up in 2-3 billion years?"☀️. "I learned that humans appeared a few million years after the earth was formed 👀" "so... A bang💥? ... like... from nothing 🚫... to something 🌎... I don't get it 🤔. "we talked about families today... you can have a mom and a mom👭, a dad and a dad👬, just a mom🧍🏼♀️, just dad🧍🏼♂️, or a mom and a dad👫 ... So like men marry men👨❤️👨... and women marry women👩❤️👩...??" 🤯 "Today we were told that when we say the pledge we can use any name in place of God when we say, one nation under God 🇺🇲 ... It was recommended we say, one nation under mother nature" .... I'm confused 🤔. "Well... today I heard that mother nature created everything..."🥴
Like I said, great questions!! It's a constant reminder... Public education and Biblical teaching are contrary to each other. We live in a culture so far removed from Biblical principles, sadly the sins of world are becoming normalized so much so that standing in truth will lead you to becoming viewed as hateful. You see standing in truth is nothing more than simply not bowing down to the prince of this world. It's not an attack against individuals or those struggling with sin. We ALL struggle with sin. The difference is whether or not you believe it to be sin or not be sin. A sinful heart is in need of a savior. But if you don't believe it to be sin then why would you need a savior?? The savior of the world came for the sinners! We are ALL sinners!! The Bible will tell you what sin is, it will point you to Christ and the spirit of God will lead you towards a heart of repentance. The real question is... If Christ truly is the savior of the world... Are you willing to be saved?? What must you do to become saved??
My kids are being introduced to a new idea 💡. This idea is a world without a creator. This idea inevitably will lead to new ideas and bigger questions. You see if there really is no creator... Then is there really a God? If there is no God then who defines good and evil? ... If it's defined by man... then who is right?". Now maybe I'm going down a rabbit trail, but according to my calculations this small, subtle, seemingly innocent idea of no creator from a secular scientific view at this age ... will inevitably lead to the much bigger questions above ☝🏼 by about middle school!! Talk about identity crisis!!
Honestly it feels as though our kids are on the battlefield each and every day!!! ... Are they ready for this? ... Are they prepared? ... Do they have a firm foundation strong enough to withstand the flaming arrows🔥🏹 of the evil one?!
Ephesians 6: 13-17 : [13] Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. [14] Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, [15] and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. [16] In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. [17] Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
It's hard not to want to shelter and protect our kids from the evil around us. But I believe just like Esther in the the time of Babylon.... Our kids were created "for such a time as this"! We just have to lean into to God, follow his leading and teach our kids how to listen and hear the shepherds voice!
This is so helpful Jody!
